State Rep. Barbara Drummond announces campaign for Mobile mayor

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Another candidate has officially entered the race to be the next mayor of Mobile.

Current State Democratic Rep. Barbara Drummond has announced her intention to run.

Drummond has served as a representative for 10 years.

“I’ve filed my paperwork to run for mayor because Mobile’s best days are ahead of us, and we need leadership that brings every neighborhood into the future,” Drummond said. “This campaign is about bringing people together — young and old, lifelong Mobilians and new arrivals, small business owners and working families — to build a city where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. An official announcement event will be forthcoming.”

Drummond joins a growing list of others vying for the position, including Strickland Youth Center Deputy Administrator Lawrence Battiste, former District Judge Spiro Cheriogotis, Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson, as well as former Mobile County commissioner and ex-city councilman Steve Nodine.
